Forest House

Forest House is MMBI's interpretation of Sustainable Northwest Design, and represents a direction that we're excited to continue. Sited on a sloped perch within a forest clearing, the home is optimally designed for our Northwest environment. It has a large protecting roof, eaves designed to block summer sun and allow winter light, and extensive use of both external windows and internal relites to bring light into the core of the home.

The floorplan follows the sloped topography, and its detached deck gives a sense of "floating" in the forest. A geo-thermal heating and cooling system, weather-resistant exterior on the north side of the home, extra-insulated materials, use of Alaskan Cypress and Western Red Cedar, a heat recovery ventilation system, and a 34 degree pitch of the roof (for solar panels) mean this home is inexpensive to operate and maintain.
