As happens in most of our design projects, the combination of the setting, site, and personalities of the owners inspired the design of this contemporary farmhouse. The buildable site was bordered by streams and a wetland which dictated a small footprint, and we chose a Gambrel barn style, in keeping with the rural setting.
The economic parameters of the project suggested we design the very structure of the building to convey the finished elements. So beams were exposed, floors became ceilings, and the frame itself became in many ways the finished product. This was a low VOC project, and we used many recycled and reused materials.
